    Baby say it isn’t true
    You were never there
    It wasn’t you
It’s more than I can do
To try and keep it shiny new
    The gap just opens up
Between the words we like to use
    And the thing that’s seen
Seen through your eyes now darling
    In blue distances calling
Like the birds of the high arctic

And you don’t have to make the move
No there ain’t nothing left to prove
    Accept the plain unvarnished truth
It’s a part of you you can’t remove
    Like a love that’s been
    There ain’t no answers darling
    Just blue distances calling
Like the birds of the high arctic

    They’re calling
Like the birds of the high arctic
    This darling
For the light in your eyes sparked it
    Two sheets to the wind

    Yeah yeah, yeah yeah
    Yeah yeah, yeah yeah

Like the birds of the high arctic
Like the birds of the high arctic
Like the birds of the high arctic
Like the birds of the high arctic

Baby say that it isn’t true
You were never there and it wasn’t you
    Never there wasn’t you
Baby say that it isn’t true
    You were never there
    Never there wasn’t you

Like the birds of the high arctic
Like the birds of the high arctic
Like the birds of the high arctic

I would say it is pretty much spot-on Fox !

I went through it and it is looking good, I might have added a few nana's but that would be all maybe...

    Well done :cigar:

Awesome! Thanks for that. It clears up a few questions I had about the lyrics.

    Only a few I wonder about. I hear ...

    "The gap just opens up
Between the words we like to use and the thing that's seen
    Seen through your eyes darling"

"No there ain't nothing left to prove
Like zipped up, plain, unvarnished truth
    It's part of you,
you can't remove like a loveless beat"

    and

"They're stalling, for the light in your eyes sparked it"

    Indeed. Good ideas!

I can't tell if it's zipped up, or sucked up (only due to the audio recording simon made)... I guess we'll have to see what the real deal is.

    That's what I hear, too.

On this verse, though, I hear:

"And you don't have to make a move
No there ain't nothing left to prove
    except the plain, unvarnished truth"

:) I'm starting to like the new songs a lot, the more I listen to them! The only one I'm disappointed about is the new version of "Snow In Vegas." I agree with other people: the stripped-down piano version that David performed at Sundance in Las Vegas was beautiful!

Yes, you got it! Definitely "except"

And I agree with your comment on Snow in Vegas, too. I have lines from that that float around my head all of the time, so I had hopes that the song would live up to my impressions of it. The original full band version slightly disappointed me, but I had hopes it would be revamped in a positive direction. I think it actually went down a notch. That and Cake are the only two that I don't get. Other than that, the new songs are truly amazing.

Oh, yeah; I forgot that I wasn't too fond of "Cake," either; I like David's songs with more complex lyrics. It just sounds like a warm-up tune to me, for David to practice singing before he sings the more difficult songs.

I sort of felt bad about not liking the new version of "Snow In Vegas" because I could hear David putting a lot of effort into it, singing his heart out- I just think that, with the full band added to it, it dilutes the emotion behind the lyrics and makes it sound too much like pop music.

That's just my take on it, though; I played instruments throughout my childhood, mainly the violin, but also a bit of my brother's cello; occasionally, a keyboard, and tried a harmonica and flute recorder a few times.

this is about birds of the arctic but i want to strongly disagree on vegas. for me it's a perfect example of how an idea is developed to brilliant instrumentations/vocals to something else, something stronger. dg might tends to be very strong on his solo stuff but the step from a living room version to a full band pop song is heavy.

hey just to clarify sundance and vegas are two very different matters............trust me I was at both lol ;)

sundance is a total acoustic solo performance at the rich haines art gallery in park city utah (which is what i think you are referring to)..............two of the greatest sets I have ever experienced with dg....and the site of the infamous montage incident lmfao!

vegas was the cosmopolitan with 25 grayheads and band/crew all staying at the cosmo dca hospitality suite for all before a back of the house guided tour to get in pre ga and then one of the most rocking gigs I have heard from the boys in years......THAT snow was very different lol! ;)

I enjoy the current version. The intro feels like you're panning in on a snowy little cabin with yellow light coming out the windows. Then the sun comes out at the end.

As much as I'm liking the new album I can't help but feel the poetic lyrics are missing from most of the songs. There seems to be a lot of repetitive one line chorus throughout the album. It seems like the repetitiveness takes the place of the poetic lyrics I am use to listening to. I do like the new album, it's different.
